Environmental Benefits

PRESERVING WATER RESOURCES
Our individual dry toilets operate without using any water. Organic waste (faeces and urine) is covered with wood shavings. This layering, called “bedding,” helps absorb odours. Each use of one of our dry toilets saves approximately 8 litres of water.

RECYCLING, SUSTAINABILITY, AND BIO-BASED MATERIALS
To reduce waste and support sustainable development, we integrate recycling, durability, and eco-design at the core of our R&D and the manufacturing processes of our eco-friendly sanitary units.

The birch wood used in our dry toilet range is gradually being replaced with a “compact” material with a natural wood appearance, composed of 65% natural paper fibres from forest-sourced timber and recycled paper materials. Supply sources are FSC® and PEFC certified, ensuring responsible forestry for sustainable forest management according to international regulations. This material contains no halogenated organic compounds, asbestos, chemical treatments, sulphur, mercury, or cadmium! Specially designed for outdoor exposure and public spaces, its lifespan can exceed 50 years, and it is certified by a verified FDES via Inies.

Our polyethylene dry toilets are 100% recyclable.
Our dry toilet caravans are repurposed old recirculation caravans (20+ years old) that are stripped and fully refurbished by our SWITTEC production workshop in Hauts-de-France, giving them a second life with Made in France craftsmanship.

SUSTAINABLE CONSUMABLES
Committed to a comprehensive environmental approach, we pay attention to every detail:

  • Toilet paper: unbleached cellulose, made 100% from recycled beverage cartons, ECOLABEL certified.

  • Wood shavings: sourced from Northern European conifers, untreated, provided by Ecobox (PEFC member), ensuring sustainable forest management.

  • Composting/biogas waste bags: when waste is converted into compost or biogas, it is packaged in OKCOMPOST-certified biodegradable corn bags, 100% plant-based.

COLLECTING AND VALUING URINE
To make your cultural, sporting, and music events as environmentally friendly as possible, we offer a unique and innovative service for urine collection, which is then converted into agricultural bio-solutions through our partner, Toopi Organics.

In 2022, we supported seven major events in this initiative, collecting over 120 m³ of urine from dry urinals, keeping it out of the conventional wastewater cycle, saving nearly 1,440 m³ of water, and potentially fertilising 5,000 hectares with an ecological solution approved for market use.

We continue to support your environmental commitments, with a 2023 collection roadmap covering over 60 engaged events!

VALUING SOLID WASTE
Organic waste from our dry toilets is converted into compost, biogas, or energy according to three key criteria:

  1. Proximity of the treatment centre to the Happee Services agency or your event site, to reduce CO₂ emissions from waste transport.

  2. Traceability documentation, ensuring the treatment centre can provide records for the processed waste.

  3. Waste sorting capability at the treatment centre before recovery. This is essential before composting: as our dry toilets are used by the public, non-biodegradable items may be present in the bedding and must be removed beforehand to prevent contamination of agricultural land.
