Bilan Carbone (Carbon Footprint Assessment) 2023: HAPPEE Services takes action for a sustainable future

24 December 2024

At HAPPEE Services, our commitment to CSR forms the cornerstone of our priorities.
By carrying out our 2023 Bilan Carbone assessment, we have accurately measured our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to better guide our actions in promoting ecological transition.

What is a Bilan Carbone®?

The Bilan Carbone is a method developed by the ADEME (French Environment and Energy Management Agency) to assess the GHG emissions generated by a particular activity. This assessment is based on three scopes:

Scope 1: direct emissions (from fuel combustion, for example).

Scope 2: indirect emissions related to energy consumption (electricity, heating, etc.).

Scope 3: other indirect emissions, such as those resulting from business travel, purchasing and the transport of goods.

In 2022, we laid the foundations by carrying out our first carbon footprint assessment with an essential initial step.
In 2023, we consolidated the data in order to refine our analysis and gain experience for the four ENYGEA Group subsidiaries concerned, including HAPPEE Services. This new scope will enable us to introduce our initiatives more effectively, and take effective action to reduce our carbon footprint.

Key figures for our 2023 Bilan Carbone

HAPPEE Services: 1,055 tonnes of CO₂/year (a 33.3% reduction compared with 2022, which stood at 1,582 T CO₂)

For the ENYGEA Group’s four subsidiaries combined: in 2022, the result was 11,168 tonnes of CO₂.
In 2023, it will be 11,107 tonnes of CO₂.

For the 350 employees of the ENYGEA Group, this represents 31.37 tonnes of CO2 per employee.
Now that we know this, our aim is to improve and reduce these emissions as much as possible.

An encouraging first step

Compared with the previous year, we have reduced our overall emissions by 0.6% for the Group as a whole. This may not seem like much progress, but it is significant for a continually improving trajectory.

In collaboration with GENEO, we have included ambitious objectives in our strategic area 2: Reducing our carbon footprint and that of our customers:

  • 4.2% reduction in Scopes 1 and 2 emissions by 2024 (compared with 2023).
  • 7% reduction in our Scope 3 carbon intensity over the same period.

Tangible actions to achieve our objectives

To reduce our carbon footprint, we are implementing innovative and ambitious initiatives:

  • Streamlining of routes: optimising trips to reduce the number of kilometres travelled.
  • Decarbonising our vehicle fleet: integrating electric or hybrid vehicles.
  • Installing electric charging points: promoting more sustainable mobility.
  • Recovering waste: giving new life to our equipment and recovering urine through our partnership with TOOPI Organics
  • Renovating buildings: prioritising energy efficiency across our infrastructure.

These projects are part of an overall decarbonisation strategy, while we uphold unrivalled quality of service for our customers.

A long-term commitment: a 30% reduction target by 2030

This second Bilan Carbone assessment marks a turning point in our environmental approach.
By identifying our main sources of emissions, we are now better prepared to bolster our action plans. Our ambitious target: to reduce our emissions by 30% by 2030.

Enygea is rewarded for its commitment to the low-carbon transition

Enygea and its brands WC LOC France, Happee France and Waterlab have been awarded the CARBO GOLD 2025 medal. This distinction places Enygea among the top 5% of companies most committed to the low-carbon transition. It rewards our tangible efforts to measure, act and raise awareness of the need to reduce our carbon footprint.
