PRESERVING WATER RESOURCES
Our individual dry toilet operates without any water consumption. Organic waste (faeces, urine) is covered with wood chips. This layering, called “litter,” helps absorb odours. Each use of one of our dry toilets saves 8 litres of water.
RECYCLING, SUSTAINABILITY, AND BIO-BASED MATERIALS
To minimise waste and support sustainable development, we integrate recycling, durability, and eco-design into our R&D and the manufacturing processes of our ecological sanitary units.
The birch wood used for our dry toilet range is gradually being replaced by a “compact” material with a natural wood appearance, composed of 65% natural paper fibres from forest timber and recycled paper materials. Supply sources are certified sustainable under FSC® and PEFC standards, ensuring responsible forest management for sustainable forestry in accordance with international laws. This material contains no halogenated organic compounds, asbestos, chemical treatments, sulphur, mercury, or cadmium. Specially designed for exposure to the elements and public spaces, it has a lifespan exceeding 50 years and has been certified by a verified Inies FDES.
Our polyethylene dry toilets are 100% recyclable.
Our dry toilet caravans are former recirculation caravans (20 years or older) that are stripped down and fully refurbished in our SWITTEC production workshop in Hauts-de-France, giving them a second life with Made in France craftsmanship.
CONSUMABLES FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Committed to a comprehensive environmental approach, we pay attention to every detail:
- Unbleached toilet paper made from 100% recycled food cartons, ECOLABEL certified
- Wood chips from untreated coniferous trees from Northern Europe, supplied by Ecobox, a PEFC-certified company ensuring sustainable forest management
- When waste is recycled into compost or biogas, we package it in biodegradable corn-based bags, OKCOMPOST certified, 100% plant-based
COLLECTING AND RECYCLING URINE
To make your cultural, sporting, and music events as environmentally friendly as possible, we offer a unique and innovative service for collecting urine, which is then converted into a bio-agricultural solution by our partner Toopi Organics.
In 2022, we supported 7 major events with this initiative, collecting over 120 m³ of urine from dry urinals, keeping it out of the conventional wastewater cycle, saving nearly 1,440 m³ of water, and potentially treating 5,000 hectares of land with an eco-friendly solution approved for market use.
We continue to support your environmental commitments with a 2023 collection roadmap covering over 60 committed events!
RECYCLING SOLID WASTE
The organic waste from our dry toilets is recycled into compost, biogas, or energy based on three key criteria:
- Proximity of the recycling centre to the Happee Services branch or your event site, to reduce CO₂ emissions from waste transport
- The recycling centre’s ability to provide traceability documentation for the waste
- The centre’s capacity to sort the waste before recycling. This is crucial before composting: as our dry toilets are used by the public, non-biodegradable items may end up in the litter and must be removed beforehand to avoid contaminating agricultural land.
