Environmental Benefits

PRESERVING WATER RESOURCES

Our individual dry toilet operates without any water consumption. Organic waste (faeces and urine) is covered with wood shavings. This layering, known as “bedding”, helps absorb odours. Each use of one of our dry toilets saves 8 L of water.

RECYCLING, SUSTAINABILITY, AND BIO-BASED MATERIALS

To minimise waste and support sustainable development, we integrate recycling, durability, and eco-design at the heart of our R&D and production processes for our ecological sanitary units.

The birch wood used in our dry toilet range is gradually being replaced with a “compact” material with a natural wood appearance, composed of 65 % natural paper fibres from sustainably harvested forest wood and recycled paper materials. Supply sources are certified sustainable under FSC® and PEFC standards, ensuring responsible forest management for sustainable forestry, in accordance with international laws. This material contains no halogenated organic compounds, asbestos, chemical treatments, sulphur, mercury, or cadmium. Specially designed for exposure to weather and public spaces, its lifespan can exceed 50 years and is certified by a verified FDES from Inies.

Our polyethylene dry toilets are 100 % recyclable.
Our dry toilet caravans are converted from recirculation caravans (20 years or older), stripped down and fully refurbished at our SWITTEC production workshop in Hauts-de-France, giving them a second life with Made in France expertise.

SUSTAINABLE CONSUMABLES

Committed to a global environmental approach, we pay attention to every detail:

  • Toilet paper made from unbleached wadding, 100 % recycled from beverage cartons, ECOLABEL certified

  • Wood shavings from untreated Northern European conifers, supplied by Ecobox, a PEFC member, ensuring sustainable forest management

  • When waste is converted into compost or biogas, it is packaged in biodegradable corn-based bags, certified OKCOMPOST and made entirely from plant-based materials.

COLLECTING AND REPURPOSING URINE

To make your cultural, sporting, and music events as environmentally friendly as possible, we offer a unique and innovative service for collecting urine to be repurposed as an agricultural bio-solution through our partner Toopi Organics.

In 2022, we supported 7 major events in this initiative, collecting over 120 m³ of urine from dry urinals, removing it from the conventional wastewater cycle. This saved nearly 1,440 m³ of water and created a potential of 5,000 hectares that could be fertilised using an ecological solution with an approved market authorisation.

We continue to support your environmental commitments, with our 2023 collection roadmap tracking over 60 committed events!

REPURPOSING SOLID WASTE

Organic waste from our dry toilets is converted into compost, biogas, or energy according to three key criteria:

  • Proximity: The treatment centre should be near the HAPPEE Services agency or your event site to reduce CO₂ emissions from waste transport.

  • Traceability: The treatment centre must be able to provide documentation tracking the waste.

  • Sorting capacity: The centre must be able to sort waste before repurposing. This is crucial before composting: as our dry toilets are used by the public, non-biodegradable items may end up in the bedding and must be removed beforehand to avoid contaminating agricultural land.
