Aiming for Carbon Neutrality

Committed to Reducing Carbon Emissions

Happee Services works daily to minimize CO₂ emissions. We act through low-emission vehicles (gas and hybrid), strict maintenance procedures, route optimization tools, and tree-planting initiatives, ensuring that every step of our operations reduces our carbon footprint.

A Clean and Efficient Vehicle Fleet

By the end of 2020, 62% of our waste collection vehicles were less than 3 years old, and 100% were under 5 years old. In line with the City of Paris anti-pollution plan, our entire fleet is equipped with Crit’Air stickers, and we track a fleet renewal indicator of 1.96, demonstrating ongoing fleet modernization.

Since 2019, all vehicle investments have been low-emission models, aiming for carbon neutrality during our logistical rounds in Île-de-France. Recent acquisitions since 2021 include:

  • 15 light hybrid vehicles (technical and commercial)

  • 1 26-ton gas truck (GNC) with a crane, a rare model on the market

These join our 2 gas-powered waste collection vehicles already in service since 2019.

Rigorous Maintenance Procedures

Maintenance is key to environmental performance, as vehicle wear and operation can generate:

  • Fluid leaks (brake fluid, refrigerants, heavy oils)

  • Particles (soot, metals, tire wear, micro- and nanoparticles from catalytic converters)

  • Hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide

Our procedures include:

  • Regular vehicle checks according to internal protocols (tire balancing, brakes, filters, etc.)

  • Inspections at regulatory intervals by certified organizations

Our subsidiary SWITTEC continuously innovates to combine performance and environmental respect, including the launch of a fully “green” vehicle that revolutionizes sanitary cabin maintenance.

Measuring and Reducing Carbon Impact

Since 2022, Happee Services conducts a Carbon Footprint Assessment, measures emissions, analyzes results, and implements reduction actions with expert support to accelerate decarbonization.

In 2025, Happee Services was awarded the CARBO GOLD medal, placing it among the top 5% of companies most committed to low-carbon transition.

"For procurement, our goal is to purchase the most durable goods possible, minimizing the use of chemicals during cleaning and refurbishment. With a strong focus on sustainability, we also repurpose certain equipment to adapt it to new uses.
Regarding our vehicle fleet, aware of our CO₂ impact, we actively deploy hybrid and GNV vehicles, and we are testing vehicles running on biofuel.”
— Xavier Grandval, Director of Equipment and Procurement

Raising Awareness Among Our Drivers on Eco-Driving

Happee Services places eco-driving awareness at the heart of its CSR approach:

  • Continuous internal training for drivers on quality processes, with a special focus on eco-driving. Training is led by our Hygiene, Safety & Training Manager and supported by our technical coordinator, who oversees driver education and fleet maintenance.

  • External training for heavy vehicle drivers through certified programs, including FIMO and FCO renewal courses.

Optimized Routes for a Greener Planet

Our logistics routes are optimized using proprietary software tailored to our operations. The goal is to reduce kilometers traveled while respecting client constraints. Each driver is equipped with a smartphone showing detailed tasks, organized geographically to ensure efficiency. This also helps reduce traffic impact in urban areas.

Monitoring Energy Consumption

As part of our continuous improvement efforts, we track energy consumption and implement measures to reduce it:

  • Our offices are low-energy, including a passive head office and an RT 2012-certified building in Île-de-France.

  • Some rental equipment is fitted with LED lighting and solar panels.

Tree Planting Initiative

In 2021, alongside reducing emissions, we became active contributors to reforestation. In partnership with the Société Forestière de la Caisse des Dépôts, we planted 7,000 trees on an abandoned farmland in Cambraisis. This forest has been certified low-carbon, reinforcing our commitment to environmental responsibility.
