Organising an event accessible to all: we give you all the information you need on PRM standards for sanitary facilities!
30 May 2023
Did you know? According to current regulations, if you are organising an event for 3,000 people, you will need approximately 33 toilet cubicles, including 3 PRM toilet cubicles. Implement good practices to ensure that your event is accessible to all!
PRM standards have one common objective: to ensure that everyone has access to mobile toilets under the best possible conditions. At your event, it is essential to provide areas reserved for people with reduced mobility. In addition, signage must be provided to indicate PRM sanitary areas and zones. A team trained in the needs of people with reduced mobility must be available throughout the event. You need to be very careful about the size of the toilets!
What do I need to know about PRM accessibility regulations?
PRM accessibility standards for mobile sanitary facilities at events are in place to ensure that people with reduced mobility have easy access to the sanitary areas at your events.
Mobile sanitary facilities are considered to be of particular importance. These must be positioned to allow easy access for wheelchair users. If there are level obstacles, a ramp is required.
It is also essential to pay attention to the size of the sanitary cubicles and the space available for wheelchairs. The cubicles are classified by category: from Type A to Type D. Type A is not accessible to wheelchair users. The Type B toilet cubicle is accessible to wheelchair users but does not allow them to turn around inside. It has a minimum passage width of 83 cm. Types C and D toilet cubicles allow the wheelchair to turn around inside the cubicle. Below are the diagrams for the different categories:

Finally, sanitary facilities at the event must be fitted with a grab bar and washbasins must be accessible from a seated position.
How do you apply these standards to your events? We’ll give you the answer.
To ensure that your events comply with PRM accessibility standards, there are a few points to bear in mind:
- Provide spaces reserved for wheelchair users in the various event areas, including performance areas, rest areas and catering areas.
- Make sure there is clear, visible signage indicating accessible paths, emergency exits and adapted sanitary facilities.
- Make sure that all participants are given information about the facility’s accessibility standards for people with reduced mobility.
