Happee Services and Lapee: inclusive sanitary areas for women

27 May 2024

HAPPEE Services’ decision to team up with women’s urinals by LAPEE is rooted in clear logic. HAPPEE Services is a pioneer in innovative feminine urinals, with its flagship product, the madamePee women’s urinal offering users comfort and privacy, while reducing never-ending queues at festivals. Building on the success of this innovative women’s range, it seemed a natural progression for us to explore new opportunities in partnership with LAPEE.

What is the LAPEE urinal and what are its benefits?

LAPEE presents a revolutionary female urinal designed for high-traffic events such as festivals. Here is an overview of the features that make LAPEE a must-have in these environments:

  • The ideal urinal for large crowds: it allows you to pee quickly, safely and hygienically (contactless) at events and festivals. Pee in 30 seconds with LAPEE, instead of 3 minutes in a conventional toilet!
  • Inclusivity: LAPEE embodies a strong commitment to women’s rights and a sense of inclusion. By offering an effective alternative to traditional toilets, it helps to create a more welcoming festival environment that respects the diversity of needs.
  • Ease of use: Validated by renowned events such as Solidays and Rock en Seine, LAPEE has been optimised for easy handling, simple cleaning, practical transport and efficient storage. This ease of use makes it the preferred choice for organisers of large-scale events.
  • Ergonomic design: LAPEE has a distinctive design, recognisable by its bright pink colour. Its curved walls not only offer increased privacy but also protection, without ever giving the impression of being closed in.
  • Environmentally-friendly: durable material with a long lifespan (10 years), made from 100% recyclable materials, and it is also waterless.

Women’s areas at festivals

Festivals are events where thousands of people gather to enjoy music, art and culture. However, despite their growing popularity, festivals have often been criticised for their inadequate sanitary facilities, particularly for women. The queues are often very long for these female users. This is where the innovative idea of the “Women’s Zones” comes in.

These areas are specially designed to meet the needs of festival-goers. They not only offer toilets and hand-washing facilities, but also innovative systems including female urinals like the LAPEE and madamePee.

These zones recognise the specific needs of women and take an important step towards eliminating gender inequalities, offering women a sense of safety, comfort and speed when they attend festivals.

In a mixed gender sanitary area, it may be beneficial to specially demarcate a women’s zone, i.e. an exclusively female section to meet their specific needs. These spaces can include our madamePee, LAPEE, washbasins, etc.

The Solidays festival places its trust in HAPPEE Services.

Solidays has placed its trust in us for several seasons now to ensure the comfort of its festival-goers.

To promote inclusiveness, we set up a women-only sanitary zone. This area was equipped with urinal rows offering stand-up urinals and female urinals such as LAPEE and the madamePee, allowing female festival-goers to urinate standing up or sitting down in a hygienic and comfortable position. One of the main advantages of this area is the easing of queues aided by having these female urinals. By offering this practical alternative to traditional toilets, we aim to significantly improve the festival experience for festival-goers. We put up signs highlighting the advantages of each solution: madamePee is more private, the LAPEE allows three simultaneous uses in a fun way, while the standing pee avoids undressing.

By introducing these zones at festivals, Solidays is demonstrating its commitment to gender equality and its concern for the well-being of all participants. In this way, it helps to create events that are more welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.

LAPEE wins the Danish Design Award 2022

LAPEE has been awarded the prestigious Danish Design Award 2022 in the “GAME CHANGER” category.

“LAPEE is a urinal for people who squat to pee. It allows people to pee quickly, safely and hygienically at events and festivals. It’s a very well thought-out concept within the context of design thinking and is a real advocate for women’s rights, offering a sense of inclusion and recognition”, says the Danish Award panel.

This recognition underscores LAPEE’s revolutionary impact in the field of feminine hygiene, offering an innovative and practical solution for women at events and festivals. By rethinking conventional norms, LAPEE transforms womens’ experiences and imparts a sense of inclusion and recognition.

To sum up, women’s zones at festivals represent a significant step towards inclusivity and respect for the needs of female festival-goers. Thanks to initiatives such as those proposed by HAPPEE, which provides innovative sanitary solutions, including LAPEEs and madamePee, these areas offer not only practical facilities, but also an environment where women feel valued and considered.
