Sanitary facilities at festivals: designed for large crowds
31 July 2025
Organising a festival leaves no room for improvisation – and the sanitary areas are a key part of this. Well-sized, well-signposted and well-designed for all types of users, they contribute directly to the public’s level of comfort.
At Happee Services, we help organisers to set up tailor-made sanitary facilities that meet the expectations of the general public.
Duration, traffic volumes, catering: the size of your sanitary area needs to be carefully considered
The number of toilets required for an event depends on a number of criteria:
- duration,
- number of participants
- presence of drinks or catering,
- type of audience and accessibility.
The EN 16194 standard sets a base of 30 cubicles for 2,000 people for more than 6 hours without food service, but this figure can be increased by 25% if drinks and meals are sold. It is also essential to provide PRM toilets (1 dedicated cubicle + 1 extra for every 500 people), as well as hand-washing facilities. To keep queues to a minimum, Happee Services recommends a configuration that takes account of the male/female ratio, average consumption and peak use, and offers appropriate solutions such as female urinals (madamePee or Lapee), cubicles with built-in hand-washing facilities, and standalone dry toilets. In addition, regular cleaning of the facilities should be included in the hygiene plan. To guarantee comfort, smooth traffic flow and safety, our teams work with you from design to installation, right through to dismantling on site.
Urinals for women: a practical solution to meet today’s needs
Expectations are changing, particularly among festival-goers, who are calling for more speed and less waiting. In response, we offer female urinals as an addition to conventional toilets. Sanitary facilities such as Lapee or madamePee, designed for use in a squatting position, offer a quick, hygienic and comfortable solution. These urinals for women can be easily integrated into women’s sanitary areas. The benefits are clear: a significant reduction in queues and an immediate improvement in the on-site experience.

Zones designed exclusively for women
We routinely offer the creation of sanitary areas reserved exclusively for women.
These dedicated areas meet a growing demand for comfort, peace of mind and safety in busy environments.
They can include:
- individual cubicles,
- urinals for women,
- clear signage,
- and a layout designed to ensure seamless use.

Sanitary facility signage: avoiding confusion, clarifying spaces
A good sanitary experience also means that spaces are easy to navigate.
At Happee, we provide organisers with a full range of signage to clearly distinguish between women’s, men’s and combined zones, and to prevent misunderstandings in urinal areas, where privacy is less protected.

Are you planning a festival or a large-scale event?
Our teams will work with you to create a tailor-made sanitary facility plan, adapted to the uses and requirements of your users.
